Classification
Supplemental: Parkinson's Disease (PD)
Short Description of Instrument
The Apathy Motivation Index (AMI) is an 18 item self-report index that assesses apathy in the behavioral activation (BA), emotional sensitivity (ES), and social motivation (SM) domains over the previous two weeks. It was adapted from the Lille Apathy Rating Scale (LARS).
Comments/Special Instructions
If administering the self-report version without concurrent administration of the caregiver version, researchers should be aware that patients may lack self-awareness of apathy.
Scoring and Psychometric Properties
Total AMI score correlated positively with Lille Apathy Rating Scale (LARS) overall score (r = 0.51, P < 0.001) and had good diagnostic accuracy (AUC=0.82); internal reliability was good (Cronbach's a overall = 0.86, a BA = 0.79, a SM = 0.80, a ES = 0.66) in PD (Ang et al., 2018).
Rationale/Justification
Strengths: Multidimensional assessment of apathy; self-report that is quick and easy to administer.

Weaknesses: Limited use in PD.
